Today I saw Dylan from a distance!
Early this morning I drove to Canberra High School and parked where I usually pick Dylan up, hoping to see him on his way to school. I didn’t see him, so I drove to Woden to pick up my mail, I then drove back to Canberra High School.
I met with the Deputy Principal of the School and fully explained this situation to him (New Deputy Principal), I also provided him with a copy of the current Family Court Orders which state that Dylan resides with me and that I have full Parental responsibility. The Deputy Principal was very understanding and explained that he could not check that Dylan was in attendance until the rolls were returned at recess time. He promised to call me and let me know either way whether Dylan was at School or not, he never called.
At 2:30 PM I again parked where I normally pick Dylan up and saw him boarding a bus for the City Interchange. This gives me a very good lead and only one probability as to where he is residing, I cannot confirm this though until I meet with DHCS Care & Protective Services tomorrow, with the intention of formulating a plan for Dylan’s return to his rightful home with his Mother.
I am dismayed that the Deputy Principal of Canberra High did not call me back to tell me that Dylan was indeed at School, I consider that extremely bad form and in contravention of the Court Orders. I will be contacting ACT Education to make a formal complaint regarding this.
January 29, 2010 & My Son is still missing
Today has been a day when I have achieved nothing very much in regards to finding my Son. At the moment I am preparing for what I consider inevitable, that ACT Policing/AFP will continue to do absolutely nothing to find my Son.
The complete lack of contact by them with me, even after lodging an official complaint with them over two weeks ago indicates that they are continuing down the path of choosing to not believe that DHCS Care and Protection have absolutely no idea where my Son is.
Phone records I have indicate that my Son may have visited his father at the end of December in Sydney, but since then his location has been in the ACT. But only up until the 15th of December when his Telstra mobile went offline, I have been unable to track his whereabouts since then and not a single Agency or Social Worker has had contact with my Son since the first week in December.
This is consistent with one of the last text messages I received from him, which was on or around the 8th of December, 2009.
I remain an extremely distressed mother completely disgusted by a system which can fail in such a dismal manner.
I will be updating my blog every day, until I hear from my Son
Today has been a mixed day, it has now been 2 months and 1 day since I last saw my Son. I know I am focusing on my Son and not my Daughter and that is because I know my Daughter is ok, social workers have had regular contact with her and there has been some progress.
Right now, this evening I am feeling a little teary, all I ask is just to hear my Sons voice again and if possible to see him again. If he chooses not to be with me then that is OK too, all I want is for him to be happy. I have tried my best to bring him up over the last 15 years, and it seems that in the end I have failed him for one reason or another.

A Mother’s Worst Nightmare
My life over the last 2 months has been an almost incomprehensible mix of horror, surrealism, frustration and emotional suffering.
My 15 year old Son, Dylan James Buerckner went missing during the last week of November 2009. My Son has NOT been seen or had any contact with anyone I know since the first week in December 2009, no social workers have had contact with him since then and there is significant concern regarding his whereabouts.
My concerns were raised with ACT DHS Care and Protection Services who attempted to locate Dylan, they were unable to locate Dylan and indeed had zero contact with him. The closest they got to locating Dylan was a conversation with my 17 year old daughter Tess during the week of 23 November 2009, with her stating that herself and Dylan were at Central Station in Sydney intending on visiting their Father, Michael David Bailey.
I can confirm that both of the Children were located in Sydney and most likely visiting their father up until 3rd of December, 2009. A Centrelink social worker last had contact with Dylan during the week of 3rd December, 2009, the social worker has not had a single contact with Dylan since then.
The last location I have for Dylan is via accessing my online billing system for his mobile phone, which lists his last location as Fraser ACT on the 15th December, 2009. Dylan either no longer has his phone or it is no longer in use.
I have attempted to report Dylan missing to the Police, under the direct advice from the ACT DHS Care and Protection Services, the Police refuse to let me report him missing.
The Police insist that ACT DHS Care and Protection Services know Dylan’s location and have had contact with him. This is absolutely NOT true, I met with the head of the ACT DHS Care and Protection Services support team late this week and confirmed that they have had no contact with Dylan and do NOT know his whereabouts, in fact they cannot understand why the Police will not let me report him missing.
The treatment I have received from the Police on the numerous times I have attempted to report him missing has been horrendous, to the point where I have been in tears. In fact my last contact with a Police Officer ended with him indicating that Dylan had been missing for 2 months now and that I shouldn’t still be distressed by it.
The two weeks over the Christmas period were the absolute worst, everything shut down, no support available, sort of like a time in limbo where absolutely nothing was progressed.
I used to have a level of respect for the Police Force, my respect for them is now non-existent in fact I am absolutely disgusted with them, and sincerely hope that no Mother ever has to experience what I have experienced at the hands of a number of completely incompetent Police Officers.
In the meantime my Son is still missing!!!
It should be noted that Dylan and I have never been apart, and this is completely out of character for Dylan.
This photo is over a year old, Dylan’s hair is longer and curly (shoulder length) he is approximately 175cm tall, solid build.

One Word = Accessibility
Today Lisa Harvey posted an excellent post on accessibility for the Government 2.0 Taskforce. Which immediately prompted some lively commenting on the post.
On person asked if the Government needed to impose the Federal Government’s laws regarding content publishing standards to consituents submission formats.
The short answer to the question is a resounding no. There is a simple answer as well which is Business Transformation, rather than impose a law on constituents the documents should be transformed during the submission process, some Federal and State Government departments already have the technology in place to do this. The issue is they have not yet identified the business need to write the business process to do this. It really is quite simple for those departments to implement an automated process which takes all the words and formatting from the submissions and converts them to all of the required formats with full accessibility applied, and all without any need for physical human interaction.
NSW Premier follows in Government 2.0 Taskforce Footsteps
Today Premier Nathan Rees announced the the NSW Government would be running a public competition called apps4nsw. A competition where the public are asked to submit ideas for applications or services based around public or government data, and prototype software applications that demonstrate the idea in action. This may include websites or web based services, mobile applications or stand-alone PC based or kiosk based applications.
There is a $100,000 prize pool and at first glance the model looks similar to the Government 2.0 Taskforce. Although the Government 2.0 Taskforce model is not limited to a prize based model.
